Confucious: Kindness and Love?

Confucious teachings taught how an individual should live ones life, how one should interact with others, and the forms of society and government in which one should participate. His treachings influenced the minds of many of his followers and even the nation of Chinatoday. Though peace and love is always great and the world needs more of it, it will not create civil and social stable society. In reality humans are naturally selfish and greedy. As things seem to go in our way, we tend to what more of it. It is not possible to create a serene society when not all of the population is able to commit to being kind and loving to all.

  1. I agree that the whole population is not able to be king and loving to all. And for Confucios teaching, we really dont see any influence in the States. Many kids disrespect their parents, and wives dont have to task for her inlaws and etc. Peace and love can't fix everything in the world.

  3. Hey, Langston. You have somewhat missed the point of the question. I didn't ask if you thought a society based on love was achievable. What I asked was even more fundamental and hypothetical in nature: would a harmonious society necessarily follow from everyone treating everyone else lovingly? Would the result be civil and social stability or not?

The question of whether we can achieve it or not is secondary to the question of whether or not it would produce the desired result. I want to know if a society governed solely by love and kindness is even worth trying to achieve. See where I'm coming from? Visualize what a society would be like if everyone was taught from birth to be nice and to think about others before themselves. Would there be things like laws and schools (civil order)? Would there be things like families and dating (social order)?

Also, don’t forget about the other part of my question: if love isn’t enough, then what else is needed? Was Confucius on to something when he spoke of li?

Also, remember the one main content rule regarding blog posts: explore the possible answers first, then take a position. Show me you’re actively considering the options.
